FALLING IN LOVE WITH JESUS

There is a significant difference between knowing about someone and being in love with them. Many of us have grown up knowing about Jesus, able to quote His words and recount His miracles, while something deeper in us longs for more. This week we explored what it looks like to move beyond information into genuine love for Jesus, and what happens when that love becomes the center of everything.

Beyond Knowing to Loving

You might know your neighbor's name, their schedule, and their habits, but that does not mean you love them. The same principle applies to Jesus. He is not looking for people who can pass a theology exam. He desires those who love Him with their whole heart, soul, mind, and strength. That love goes beyond intellectual understanding or religious activity. It is the heart's response to who He is.

When we truly grasp that the Creator of the universe wants a love relationship with us personally, everything changes. This is not about perfect theology or flawless behavior. It is about falling in love with the One who first loved us. Today, ask yourself honestly: do I merely know about Jesus, or am I genuinely in love with Him?

When Love Changes Everything

Think about the last time you fell in love with someone. Remember how it rearranged your entire world? You did not need to be convinced to spend time with them. It became the thing you looked forward to most. The same transformation happens when we genuinely fall in love with Jesus. What we once saw as religious obligations become privileges we eagerly embrace. The have to becomes want to, because love has changed our perspective completely.

When Jesus is at the center, prayer is not a burden. It is a conversation with the One your heart longs for. Worship is not duty. It is delight. Service is not sacrifice. It is the natural expression of a heart that is full. Love makes all the difference. Not by doing more, but by loving deeper.

Love That Shows

Have you ever been around a couple who is deeply in love? You do not need them to announce it. Their love is simply observable. It shows in how they look at each other, how they consider each other's needs, their joy in being together. Our love for Jesus should be equally observable, not because we are performing it for an audience, but because genuine love permeates every part of life naturally.

Our conversations carry it. Our reactions under pressure reveal it. Our daily decisions point toward it or away from it. People should be able to see that we are in love with Jesus without us having to announce it. That is the goal: love so real and so present that it speaks for itself.

“Our love for the Lord should permeate every part of our life. I hope that you know that I love her without me telling you that I love her. I hope that you know that I love her because my love is observable.”

Guarding Your First Love

Even the most passionate love can grow cold when it is not tended. The church at Ephesus had impressive religious activity and doctrinal correctness, but Jesus had a serious concern: they had forsaken their first love. The devotion had become routine. The passion had cooled to obligation. Holiness became legalism. Truth became cold standards. What should have been living expressions of devotion became burdensome rules.

But we can fall in love with Jesus all over again. Just as a marriage can be rekindled when both people choose to pursue each other again, we can return to our first love. It begins with honesty about where the heart has drifted and a genuine decision to pursue Him with renewed passion. God is not looking for perfection. He is looking for affection.

“You've allowed holiness to become about legalism. You've allowed truth to become cold standards, to become about rules. And your life is not now an expression of devotion. It's now become an obligation.”

Making Love a Daily Decision

Love is not just a feeling. It is a decision made consistently over time regardless of circumstances. Jesus demonstrated this perfectly. He went to Calvary not because it felt easy, but because He had decided to love us that much. His love was a decision that led to the ultimate sacrifice. Every day we have the opportunity to make the same kind of decision, to choose love over indifference, devotion over distraction, intimacy over distance.

These choices show up in small moments: choosing prayer over more sleep, worship over entertainment, serving when selfishness would be easier. Made consistently over time, they shape us in ways we cannot manufacture any other way. This week, let your love for Jesus be unmistakably observable through your daily decisions. You are off the market. You are in love with Jesus.

“Turn to your neighbor and say, this week he's gonna know that I love him. That this week it's going to be observable. I'm off the market. I'm in love with Jesus.”

Knowing about Jesus is where the journey begins. Being in love with Him is where it transforms. Let love be the center, and watch how everything else in your faith life changes around it.
